For the second serie of the Grand Prix Aalsmeer we welcomed team FIN 97 and Ben van Cauwenbergh with his team BEL 80. Dmitri Bondarenko (GBR 408) and the friends from Belgium and Germany who had sailed the first serie as well were well prepared for the rather light airs and shifty directions of the dominating ENE-ly wind.
A total of nineteen Dragons showed their flags at the start of the second serie for the Grand Prix Aalsmeer (Grade 2 event) sailed at Westeinder Lake from the WV Aalsmeer on 6 and 7 April.
On the 6th of April it remained a bit cloudy and chilly until the sun broke through. On the 7th all Dutch spring time temperature records were broken with temps moving into the 20 C. It became relaxed summer sailing.
It was perhaps this boost of solar energy that ignited the team of André Dupon (NED 433) during the last start. The OCS didn’t help them to win the serie after several good races ( 2x 1 and 1x 2)
Another small drama (or inconvenience) happened to the car keys of Ben van Cauwenbergh who went for a swim and were unfortunately not recovered. Let’s call it a ‘rusty start’ of the season, however, Ben’s Dragon skills were far from ‘rusty’ with a second place overall.
It was team Dmitri Bondarenko that won the second serie with Alex Helsen (team BEL 79) as third. Well done Dmitri !
With many thanks to Bas Spaargaren and his local company “Jachtschade Nederland” who are specialised in the maintenance of Dragons, the participants and volunteers were offered specially grilled chicken legs with traditional Dragon Beer after the races . Much appreciated, Bas !
The final and third serie will be sailed during the Easter Weekend (20, 21 and 22 April) with an Italian Buffet included for participants and volunteers on the Saturday. And according to Jan Bakker including delicious white and red wines.
Additional tickets for non-participating members of the Dutch Dragon class and for partners can be obtained via Jan Bakker at € 18,50.
