Dear Dragon sailors,
I hope this email finds you all in good health and making it through this trouble times. We have lost already 3 Grand Prix and the Gold Cup this year, and the Europeans had to be postponed for next year. We know the IDA and all the venues have done the best efforts to keep this events running and I personally agree with the decisions to cancel this events, but we sailors want to go sailing no matter what.
I also know that a lot of us really like the Gold Cup format with 6 long races and no discard, and that’s why Vilamoura Sailing and myself, we have decided to run an event with the exact same rules as the Gold Cup. I decided to call personally some sailors and get to 30 entries before we make it official. Great news is that we manage to get this 30 entries within less than a week and we have now 44 provisional entries. I want to make sure you all understand that this entry list shows the helmsmen that are willing to join this event in case the situation ease off and that all boats and people are able to travel to Portugal with all safety health conditions.
The event will be run from the 6-11 October with a practice race on the 5th and Race Office opened from the 4th. The naming for this event is still being discussed.
For those who could be interested in coming to Cascais earlier than October, we are considering organising some training weekends and if possible the some local racing as well.Boat transportation is being negotiated so you can all benefit from competitive prices and I will inform those who want more information about it. You can find all the information at https://www.vilamourasailing.com
Looking forward to hear from you soon.
All the very best,
Pedro Rebelo de Andrade
